Spain - 09/11/09 Supervision of Retrofitting Works for the La Rovira Tunnel in Barcelona, Spain At the beginning of 2007, the local infrastructure authority of Barcelona, Barcelona d’Infraestructures Municipals (BIMSA), decided to invest over EUR 2 Million for the retrofitting of the installations in the La Rovira Tunnel. The six-month long project focused on upgrading the signalization and accident detection systems of the 1.3 km long, double lane tunnel. To ensure that the funding for the project was spent in the most effective way and that the quality of the work performed was at the highest level, BIMSA hired SGS to act as an Independent Project Supervisor from February to July 2007. Keeping a close watch on all activities at the tunnel site as well as on the deadlines, the SGS team monitoring the project enabled the La Rovira Tunnel to pass its final completion certification with the highest marks.
