Evraz Group S.A. is one of the largest vertically-integrated steel, mining and vanadium businesses in the world. SGS Vostok Limited, the Russian subsidiary of SGS, has been providing Evraz with a range of inspection services with regard to exported products. In summer 2008, SGS team developed and implemented the new methodology for formation and certification of vanadium slag stockpiles at Nizhniy Tagil Iron and Steel Works (NTMK), member of Evraz Group S.A.

  This project’s success is a strong argument for Evraz further outsourcing projects with participation of SGS.

I really appreciate the fact that SGS is developing the engineering business line and fills up the vacuum for such kind of services showing up in the CIS after Soviet science had died. This offering is a strong competitive advantage of SGS. During the Soviet period, most of SGS functions had been performed by mill’s laboratory staff. However, the recent experience demonstrated that involvement of independent engineers and surveyors is much more effective.
