Environmental Services

Our Ecosystem
Our global ecosystem, encompassing air, water, land and habitats supporting plant and animal life, is daily affected by both natural and human factors. Learn more about Environmental Services.

DIOXIN TESTING

SGS offers clinical certainty that there are no dioxin risks in your production processes. With a team of highly skilled scientists, our Institute for Applied Chromatography (I.A.C.) analyses traces of dioxin contamination in a wide range of samples. Learn more about Dioxin Testing.

EMISSION MEASUREMENTS

SGS succeeds in conducting air measurements according to the highest quality standards. The resources we use for this include a fleet of mobile laboratories. Learn more about Emission Measurements.

AIR
SGS offers a wide variety of services concerning air sampling and monitoring. Services include measurements of emissions into the air as well as measurements of ambient air and workplace monitoring. Learn more about Air.
ASBESTOS
In the past, asbestos was widely used for thousands of products: automotive brakes, friction products, textiles, insulation and other building materials. Now considered carcinogenic, the use of asbestos is strongly regulated or altogether banned. SGS analyses the presence of asbestos in suspect building materials, measures the air quality in locations where asbestos-containing materials have been used and inspects sites where asbestos-containing materials are removed, before, during and after demolition. Learn more about Asbestos.
CLIMATE CHANGE
The SGS Climate Change Programme offers a range of services addressing the growing need of mandatory and voluntary reporting of greenhouse gas emissions. We aim to facilitate trade in greenhouse gas emissions and promote harmonization through application of standardized verification procedures. Learn more about Climate Change.
GEOTECHNICS
For infrastructure works like the construction of buildings, roads and sewers, or the construction of dikes, tunnels and bridges, knowledge of the subsoil is essential. SGS uses different methods to examine the stability of the subsoil such as mechanical and electrical cone penetration tests (CPT), wire rock coring and punch coring drilling. Drilling services on closed waterways are performed with portable barge-mounted drilling equipment. Learn more about Geotechnics.
HAZARDOUS GOODS
The storage, handling and forwarding of hazardous chemicals and dangerous goods is subject to severe, national and international legislation. Physical and chemical properties as well as safety and environmental risks of all chemical substances must be recorded onto Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). SGS not only offers you complete on line management of your MSDS; we also provide Emergency Response Services in case an accident happens anywhere in the world. These services are at your disposal 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in over 60 language territories. Learn more about Hazardous Goods.
SOIL
SGS offers a wide variety of drilling services and methods specifically tailored for the investigation of environmental soil and groundwater pollution on industrial and contaminated land sites. The results of these investigations are used by our experts to create remediation plans for cleaning up polluted sites or to prevent the further distribution of pollutants into the environment. Learn more about Soil.
INDOOR ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY
SGS employs a life cycle analysis approach with its unique Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) services. Targeted at delivering diagnostic assessment and solutions for buildings from design conception to demolition, the service includes diagnostic field inspections and lab analysis of indoor environmental aspects such as water, energy, lighting, electro-magnetic fields, noise, odor and the presence of asbestos and radon. Learn more about Indoor Environmental Quality.
