Raising the Octane of VPH Analysis In Australia, MBTEX

With industry leading Purge & Trap, Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry capabilities, SGS Australia is adding relevance and value to the analysis of Volatile Petroleum Hydrocarbons (VPH) from Environmental samples.  SGS Environmental Services will now add methyl tert-butyl ether (MtBE) to the analysis of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX), all from the same VPH analysis and at no extra cost.

Until recently, MtBE was thought not to be prevalent as a contaminant in Australia.  When released to the environment, MtBE is known to easily pollute large quantities of water giving unpleasant aesthetics at concentrations as low as 5ppb.  SGS analyses MtBE in accordance with all relevant Environmental and Health guidelines, including the latest National Environmental Protection Measure (NEPM) which, whilst still in draft (to press), is likely to come in to force in the first half of 2011.

The decision to always analyse MtBE with BTEX (“MBTEX”) has come on the back of extensive discussions with Global & Australian industry leaders and in response to review of the latest NEPM (2011, in draft) ensuring that SGS clients will have their future needs met, today.
