Mr. Arunas Zubas, General Manager. Mestilla UAB developed and built an oil-seed crushing and trans-estrification plant in the economic development zone of Klaipeda, Lithuania. With a processing capacity of 400.000ton oil-seeds per annum, and output feed-grade rape-cake, glycerin in addition to 100.000 tons/annum of FAME (B-100), Mestilla operates the largest bio diesel facility in Lithuania and the Baltic. Mestilla UAB commenced bio diesel production in early November 2007. The grand opening celebrations were organized on November 8th, 2007.  What made us decide to outsource was a variety of reasons. Most important is the fact that our clients can see that our Quality Control and Quality Management is executed by the independent SGS Group, which we believe will create immediate product acceptance. We work with SGS for many years all over Eastern Europe and Russia, we know their people and organization, and can see that again they work hard to earn our trust.  Mr. Arunas Zubas, General Manager, explains:” the market for gas oil in Lithuania and Baltic countries is growing fast. Being an EU-member now, demand for bio diesel has increased significantly and will continue to do so. We built a world-class facility and are well positioned in the Klaipeda economic development zone, with excellent harbor facilities nearby. So, we can provide the local- as well as the export markets.” Eugene Tarachovsky, Operations Manager for SGS in Lithuania explains: This means pre-shipment inspections in the field, sampling & analyzing in the logistics process into the crushing & estrification plant and finally in the ship or truck of Mestilla’s customers.” To ensure quick turnaround quality control testing, SGS built an on-site laboratory and installed trained lab technicians and fully equipped the laboratory. The on-site laboratory is an integral part of the SGS Klaipeda organization and laboratory, and therefore will be accredited according ISO-17025 within 18 months from the start. SGS has the tools and experience. Mr. Arunas Zubas concludes:” The decision to outsource the laboratory and complete Quality Management was not easy. We are used to have everything in-house and in full control. What made us decide to outsource was a variety of reasons.
